One of my poems was published this week in Flying Island. It’s a nontraditional Valentine’s poem. In one of my writing classes, we had the prompt to write about something that keeps us sane. (I’m paraphrasing.) My interpretation was to write about the one person who brings sanity to my life. Who holds up all my falling. Who takes everything I give him with grace and patience. It’s not easy to be married to someone with a mental illness, and he certainly didn’t know what he was signing up for when we said “I do” twenty-one years ago. Nevertheless, JC has always been here for me, and his love inspired this poem.
